The digitalization of our society and our economy has led to a dependency on information and communication technologies and thus to serious risks related to our cyber security. Nowadays everything is online, from simple devices like a smart lightbulb to complex systems like a medical MRI scanner. Such things form networks such as building automation systems, e-health environments, smart industry, etc. The blending of cyber and the physical worlds requires a broader perspective on security. INTERSECT(*) takes us towards an Internet of Secure Things by being multi-disciplinary and considering multiple perspectives; Design, Defense, Attack, Governance, and Privacy.
We have two PhD positions available within INTERSECT. The first track is focused on defense and collaborative security monitoring and response. It looks at new ways to detect and identify attacks, attackers and suitable response in collaboration with others. The second track is a more general call on IoT security within the mentioned perspectives, with the expertise and interest of the applicant important to shape the direction.
The positions are within the SECurity cluster of TU Eindhoven, the Netherlands. This group offers a wide range of security topics, such as IoT security, network monitoring, social engineering and criminal markets, access control, formal methods and quantum security. Being part of the INTERSECT consortium provides contacts with many academic and industrial partners, ensuring relevance of the research. In addition to this, the SEC group also has excellent contacts with industry and direct access to the ESH-SOC (Eindhoven Security Hub Security Operation Center), an operative environment collecting threat data from third party IT infrastructures.
(*) This position is part of the NWO/NWA INTERSECT project Grant Number NWA.1160.18.301. More information on the project is available here: https://intersct.nl/.
