Empa’s Center for X-ray Analytics is offering a
Postdoc position in Small Angle X-ray Scattering
This interdisciplinary project will be embedded within the newly formed group “Hierarchical Systems” in the Center for X-ray Analytics at Empa. The research group focus on the development of advanced X-ray imaging and scattering techniques and their application towards materials with hierarchical structures in soft-matter and biomedical applications. The infrastructure available including different lab-sources for SAXS, XRD as well as 3D imaging will be used in collaborative research projects. Relevant sample systems include for example nanoparticle solutions for medical applications, biological tissues or cellulose composites. The postdoctoral position includes independent research tasks and can also involve co-supervision of graduate or master students. Initiation of own research projects is highly encouraged.
Your Tasks
- Apply and develop X-ray scattering methodology on selected soft matter systems
- Leverage the synergies of the interdisciplinary project at the interface of X-ray research, polymer chemistry and biology being in constant exchange with our collaboration partners
- Publish results in high impact journal and present your work at international conferences
- Contribute in writing research proposals as PI/CoPI
Desired profile
- Experience in applying X-ray scattering in characterization of nanomaterials
- Completed PhD degree in physics, chemistry, material sciences or other related areas.
- Good publication record
- Highly motivated, communicative and interest in interdisciplinary research
- Language skills: English, German (advantageous)
We offer a challenging position at a materials research institution with outstanding infrastructure and an interdisciplinary surrounding. You can expect significant support and guidance during the whole duration of your project. The candidate will perform his/her research at Empa in St. Gallen. The position is initially available for 1 year with possibility for extension upon successful contributions in writing research proposals. The starting date is as soon as possible.
