UHasselt's Design & synthesis of inorganic materials (DESINe) group belongs to the Institute for Materials Research (imo-imomec), which researches materials for applications in the field of energy and health.
A fundamental scientific research project was recently awarded in the field of Na ion batteries, more specifically with a focus on research into new solid electrolytes. This research focuses on the synthesis of composite materials with a matrix containing liquid phases such as ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents. Both the synthesis of the matrix and the liquid phase are part of the research. Acquiring in-depth insights into the physicochemical properties of the material is also part of this project. Since the material is intended as an electrolyte, much attention will also be given to the study of the electrochemical properties and conductance of ions in this newly synthesized family of materials.
As a PhD student, you will conduct experimental research in an international and interdisciplinary research environment within the framework of this project. At the same time you prepare a doctorate in science (chemistry), which means that you actively work on your training as an independent researcher by presenting innovative research ideas and hypotheses based on a thorough knowledge of the 'state of the art', by communicating the obtained insights and results and by publishing them in scientific journals.
Part of your assignment consists of providing assistance in the didactic assignments of the chemistry department.
You will be appointed and paid as PhD student.
2 years, after which a prolongation of 2 years is possible.
You can only apply online up to and including 18 August 2020.
All candidates who meet the requirements are invited to take a test. Successful candidates are invited to participate in the selection interview.
A written assignment in the domain of the research is foreseen before the interview
