Post-doctoral positions in functional genomics of virus-host interactions

Two EU ERC-funded post-doctoral positions are open at the Inserm Institute for Viral and Liver Disease (Inserm U1110) and the Laboratory of Excellence HepSYS (Head: Prof. Thomas F. Baumert, MD) at the University of Strasbourg, France. The institute is located in a state-of-the-art infrastructure and an internationally renowned research environment with all tech platforms on campus. Inserm and the University of Strasbourg are consistently ranked among the leading research organisations.

The Baumert laboratory focuses on the functional genomics of virus-host interactions to discover and develop novel preventive and therapeutic strategies for viral infection and liver disease (Colpitts et al. Gut 2017, Verrier et al. Cell Rep. 2016, Fauvelle et al. Gastroenterology 2016, Nakagawa et al. Cancer Cell 2016, Mailly et al. Nature Biotechnol. 2015; Majzoub et al. Cell 2014; Chung & Baumert N. Engl. J. Med. 2014; Zona et al. Cell Host Microbe 2013; Lupberger, Zeisel et al. Nature Med. 2011).

What we offer

Aiming to discover the cell circuits driving virus-induced disease biology and cancer, the successful candidates will focus on functional genomics of virus-host cell interactions. One position is open to apply CRISPR-Cas9 loss-of-function screens to uncover virus-induced disease biology using a novel human cell-based model system. A second position is open to develop novel humanized mouse models for virus-induced disease and cancer using AAV-mediated gene transfer and single cell RNASeq. We provide the opportunity to work in a highly dynamic and international environment with top-level collaborations within academia and industry. Furthermore we offer a competitive remuneration package, mentoring and long-term career opportunities within the Inserm tenure track program for junior faculty.

Profile

You are a highly motivated PhD or MD with a strong background in cell biology, virology or functional genomics (position 1) or animal experimentation (position 2) and have a solid track record of publications. You have excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. French is not required.

To apply, please send your motivation letter (why you are interested in this position) and CV (including experience, key publications and 3 academic references) to Prof. Thomas Baumert (Thomas.Baumert@unistra.fr) as well as the institute’s project manager Dr. Olga Koutsopoulos (koutsopoulos@unistra.fr)
