Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Center for Infectious Medicine is a dynamic translational research unit within the Department of Medicine Huddinge with a focus on the human immune system and infectious diseases. CIM is located within Karolinska Institutet's newly established research facility, ANA Futura, which offers excellent infrastructure at the forefront of research. CIM has 16 research groups, and this position is coupled to Anna Norrby-Teglund and Mattias Svensson's research group.

Your mission

We are looking for 1-2 postdocs to head research projects linked to a recently granted NIH-application aiming to advance our insight on rheumatic fever; a severe sequalae to group A streptococcal infections resulting in several hundred thousand deaths yearly. The goal is to unravel what defines a protective versus pathologic immune response to infection and to use this knowledge to develop a rapid diagnostic assay to achieve early identification of these cases. This project will be done in close collaboration with teams in Australia and the UK. The Swedish team is responsible for development of human tonsil models which will involve advanced tissue engineering and exploration of immunological responses in tissue and single cells. Advanced omics, flow cytometry and microscopy will be used to determine immune responses and pathogen characteristics in patients and the infected models.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Applicants must have advanced knowledge and practical experience in immunology, cell biology and/or infection biology. Experience in these areas must be proven through published work in well renowned journals. Knowledge in bioinformatics and data-driven modelling, as well as work with human tissue culture systems, such as organotypic models, is particularly meritorious.
