A postdoctoral position is currently available in the Vibrational Imaging group, headed by Prof. Carlo Liberale, in the Biological and Environmental Science & Engineering Division at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST, Saudi Arabia).
The Liberale group is a multidisciplinary team of physicists, engineers and biologists committed to the development and application of new-generation label-free microscopy methods for biomedical research.
Among its applications, a major focus is towards understanding the role of altered lipid metabolism in cancer and, in particular, in defining the distinct characteristics of Cancer Stem Cells when compared other cells of the tumor bulk.
The laboratory is equipped with cutting edge instruments and technology in the field of vibrational micro-spectroscopy (Coherent Raman microscopy, Infrared microscopy). Additionally, KAUST offers exceptional infrastructure for scientific research and is equipped with state-of-the-art core facilities.
We are looking for an ambitious and self-motivated candidate to work on an interdisciplinary project aimed at investigating lipid dysregulation in Cancer Stem Cells by a combined approach involving biological methods and the use of our innovative Stimulated Raman Scattering microscope for quantitative imaging of lipids in live cells.
A Ph.D. degree in Biology or a related field is required. The candidate must have experience in cell culture and in standard cellular and molecular biology techniques. Experience in cancer or metabolism related research will be considered a plus.
The offered appointment is a full-time research position with a two-year contract.
A highly competitive salary is provided. Benefits: free housing; relocation support; health insurance; one round-trip airline ticket per year to visit home country.
Applications should include:
- cover letter that summarizes the research experience and areas of interests of the applicant
- Academic transcripts (unofficial/scanned is acceptable)
- contact information of at least 2 academic references.
