Third-cycle subject: Fibre and polymer science
The current position, founded internally by KTH School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health, is a multidisciplinary project aiming at increasing the interaction between the department of Fibre and Polymer Technology and the department of Protein Science, division of Nanobiotechnolgy. Aiming to combine the knowledge availably in the field of surface modification, with bio-polymers such as cellulose, with the knowledge availably in microfluidic devices for biomedical applications. During the recent decade cellulose in the form of different types of nano cellulose have attracted large interest into different types of application. Different sources of cellulose surfaces can be prepared and modified with either chemical grafting or physisorption to increase interactions with other materials relevant for biomedical applications such as diagnostics. Microfluidics has the potential to spur the development of protocols and affordable instruments for specific bioanalyses. With novel polymer material as a starting point, your duties as a graduate student will be to develop microfluidic based cellular and molecular diagnostic tools.

Information regarding admission and employment
Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle studies may be employed as a doctoral student. The term of the initial contract may not exceed one year. The employment may be extended for a maximum of two years at a time. However, the total period of employment may not exceed the equivalent of four years of full-time study. Decisions on employment as a doctoral student may not be appealed.

Doctoral students should primarily devote themselves to their own education, but may engage in teaching, research, and administration corresponding to a maximum of 20 % of a full-time position.
