Sweden is a favourite destination for academics. Here's a breakdown of the most common Swedish academic jobs and their salaries.
KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.
Third-cycle subject: Theoretical Chemistry and Biology with focus on modeling of molecular of ionic liquids and development of novel computational methods in spectroscopy
The Department of Theoretical Chemistry and Biology (TCB, https://www.theochem.kth.se/) is recruiting one PhD student to develop models for simulations of reactions in metalorganic frameworks. These structures are constructed of metal oxide clusters linked to organic carboxylic acids, resulting in unique properties such as extremely large pores with large surfaces. By attaching molecules with catalytic properties into the framework, they can have activity similar to that of molecular catalysts, but easier separation, and higher stability. In this project, methods will be developed and used to study diffusion and distribution of reactants and products in the pores, we will determine the adsorption energy of substrates, and new methods will be developed to allow for studying bond formation with full dynamic description of the environment. The reactions in focus involve carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in synthesis of organic molecules. The project is part of a major effort for sustainable synthesis (CATSS https://www.catss.se/).
We are looking for one candidate with a MSc degree in physics or chemistry.
This projects is part of a collaborative project between KTH and USTC (University of Science and Technology of China). Up to 50% of the time will be spent in this prestigious institute in China and give the opportunity to develop a unique international profile for the future career. TCB is recruiting two students that both will be part of this initiative and conduct their secondments to USTC in parallel.Main supervisor of this PhD students will be Assoc. Prof. Mårten Ahlquist at TCB. Co-supervisors will be Assoc. Prof Zilvinas Rinkevicius at TCB and Prof. Yi Luo at TCB. Prof. Yi Luo is also the director of the HFNL institute (Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale) at USTC.
