KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Job description

The focus is on developing efficient optimization algorithms and optimization techniques for optimal control and coordination of smart converters for supporting the power grid. You will work in the Digital Futures project “Autonomous coordination and control of smart converters for sustainable power systems”. In the project you will collaborate with researchers from Electrical Engineering who are experts on power systems, and your role is more focused on the optimization aspects. In the project you will work with large-scale optimization problems, and you will investigate different approaches for distributed optimization for real-time applications. You will be working at the division of Optimization and Systems Theory at the department of Mathematics and actively collaborate with researchers at the division for Electric Power and Energy Systems at the department of Electrical Engineering. You will be working in close collaboration with Assistant Professor Jan Kronqvist.

The project as a whole focuses on one of the core challenges in sustainable power systems, namely how to efficiently integrate renewable power sources in our power systems. The project gives you the opportunity to develop new optimization methods/techniques, but also experience from different methods for solving large-scale optimization problems in power systems.

The position is research focused and may contain teaching to a maximum of 20%.

What we offer

  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future.
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
