Project description: Structural failure in the aerospace, civil and energy sectors can be life threatening for users/passengers and financially catastrophic for operators and the manufacturer. This is the main reason for which critical structures (i.e. aircrafts, wind turbines etc.) spend large part of their life cycle under inspection with the accompanied costs being significant. On-line detection and characterization of minor failures within complex (composite as well as 3D printed) structures can lead to a radical reduction of this cost and eventually cheaper and safer transport and energy production.
The contract is offered initially for 1 year with an extension up to 4 years after a positive evaluation. Applications should be submitted through KU Leuven’s online platform with detailed CV, short motivation letter and degree transcripts attached.
