The Department of Building Technology is part of the Faculty of Technology at Linnaeus University, which has extensive collaboration with the trade and industry in the region, both when it comes to research and education. The department collaborates with the related departments of Forestry and Wood Technology; Built Environment and Energy Technology; and Mechanical Engineering to create a successful and creative environment with challenging educations and prominent research. All in all, the four departments have roughly 110 employees, of which 20 are professors and 25 are doctoral students. In building technology, we carry out research within architectural engineering, wood building technology, steel construction, conservation of building heritage, CAD, and BIM, as well as building material.
At present, the Department of Building Technology offers a three-year civil engineering programme with specialisation in building and construction and a three-year programme with specialisation in architectural engineering. In the autumn 2019, we will also start a two-year master's programme with specialisation in sustainable structural engineering that builds on the previous one-year master programme. Linnaeus University was recently awarded degree-awarding powers for master of science in engineering, and the department is currently working to develop such a programme within sustainable community building. This challenge requires recruitment of new staff and this teaching-focused appointment as associate senior lecturer is an important part in the strengthening of the department's teaching competence. Through this appointment, the department also aims to strengthen the professional skills of teaching staff and the collaboration with the surrounding society.
The department is in particular need of teaching within subjects like fundamental building technology, concrete constructions, building production, building material, CAD, and BIM. What is more, the department is in need of competence within architecture and architectural engineering for the programme in architectural engineering. There is also an aim to establish research activities and third-cycle education within these fields.

Scope of appointment: 100% for 4 years. The appointment may be renewed, however not for longer than a total of two years, if more time is required to fulfil the purpose of the appointment because of the associate senior lecturer's sick leave, parental leave, or other specific reasons. Following application for promotion, the associate senior lecturer should be tried for promotion to senior lecturer and appointment for an indefinite period. In accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (HF, chap 4, section 12a), Ordinance (SFS, 2017:844).
In this position as associate senior lecturer you will get the opportunity to develop your independence as a researcher and acquire both scientific and pedagogical qualifications within one of the following subjects: building technology, concrete constructions, building production, foundation, CAD and BIM, or architectural engineering. Tasks will include applying for funds for funding of research, supervision, carrying out research, and publishing in international scientific journals. Pedagogical meriting should take place through teaching on first- and second-cycle level, development of courses and student supervision. Administrative tasks may also be part of the job. Education and research is carried out in close collaboration with the industry, research institutes and state and municipality. This requires that you take an active part in these networks and that you keep track of the development within the industry and of societal development of significance for the teaching at the university.
Qualified to apply is a person who has defended his/her doctoral thesis, or in other way has acquired the equivalent scientific skills. Primarily a person should be considered who has defended his/her doctoral degree or acquired the equivalent competence no longer than five years before the expiration of the application period (HF, chap. 4, section 4a).
Also a person who has defended his/her doctoral thesis or acquired equivalent competence at an earlier stage may be considered if there are special reasons for this. Special reasons refer to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances. Ordinance (2017:844). Applicant with a doctoral degree that is older than five years should motivate in his/her application why special reasons should be taken into account.
In order to be qualified for this appointment, you are also required to be able to communicate in both English and Swedish in both writing and speech. The applicant should have good collaboration skills, ability to work independently, be structured, and be able to prioritise among job tasks.

In connection to any application for promotion to senior lecturer the following in particular will be taken into account:
An associate senior lecturer that is employed in accordance with HF chap. 4, section 12a at a higher education institution should, following application, be promoted to senior lecturer at the higher education institution if he/she meets the requirements for appointment as senior lecturer and at a trial is considered suitable for such an appointment in accordance with the assessment criteria determined by the higher education institution. Such a promotion involves employment as senior lecturer for an indefinite period. Application and trial for promotion to senior lecturer should take place within the appointment period as associate senior lecturer.
The following assessment criteria should be given special importance for associate senior lecturer at Linnaeus University; scientific/artistic and pedagogical skills, international experience, experience of and ability to collaborate, and experience of leadership. These assessment criteria should be evaluated in connection to application for promotion to senior lecturer.
When the university is to appoint new teachers, the applicants are to be selected who, through a qualitative assessment of the whole picture regarding competence and skills, are considered to have the best qualifications for the implementation and development of the tasks in question, and for contributing to a successful development of the activities.
