The Department of Computer Science and Media Technology at the Faculty of Technology is responsible for a large number of first and second cycle education programs in computer science, software engineering, and media technology. The Department conducts research in several subject areas. Within the Department's research profile "Smarter Systems," several research groups collaborate on issues that concern software in the next generation cyber-physical systems. The Department is also responsible for the Linnaeus University's center in "Data Intensive Sciences and Applications."
Currently, more than 60 employees work at the Department who also have a strong connection to other institutions at Linnaeus University. In autumn 2020, the University starts its first MSc in engineering program in software engineering.
Smarter systems can serve as tools for reducing environmental impact and for addressing global sustainability goals such as climate change, sustainable energy, sustainable production, sustainable cities, and sustainable consumption. Besides, smarter systems can have a positive impact on sustainability challenges by informing about green behavior change, replacing physical services with virtual services, intensifying existing use, and streamlining processes and systems to use fewer resources.
A practical, sustainable, digital transformation with smarter systems requires an interdisciplinary perspective, which includes the technical perspective, working with creating, storing, sharing and visualizing data, but also a user-centered perspective addressing behavior, control means, and rebound-effect analysis.

Scope of appointment: 60%
The appointment includes research, education, examination, development work, and administrative work at first, second, and third cycles in the subject area Sustainable IT. Besides, the person who assumes the position is responsible for the personal competence development by following developments in relevant subject areas and the general developments that are important for the work at the University.
An applicant is eligible for appointment as a senior lecturer if they have demonstrated educational expertise and also hold a doctoral degree or have corresponding scientific expertise considering the subject content of the appointment and the work duties included in the appointment.
In accordance with Linnaeus University's Appointment Procedures, educational expertise involves planning, implementing, and evaluating teaching, as well as supervision and examination.
To be eligible for this position, applicants must also have:
A doctoral degree in computer science or media technology with a focus on sustainability.
The assessment will be based on the applicant's research and teaching expertise in accordance with the qualifications described above. When the University appoints new members of teaching staff, it shall select those applicants who are judged, in a qualitative and holistic assessment of competence and expertise, to be most capable of performing and developing the work duties concerned and contributing towards successful operational development.
