Operations and maintenance engineering is concerned with the development of methods, models, and tools to ensure high system reliability and effective and efficient maintenance processes for both new and existing systems.

The subject area of Operations and Maintenance Engineering is multidisciplinary in nature, crossing boundaries and separating many disciplines of science, emerging technology, and art. The division's activities are focused on finding synergies with other engineering disciplines and building networks with many active research groups, locally and globally. Project description
We are searching for one Post Doctor for research in our ongoing project “AI Factory for Railway

‘AI Factory for RAILWAY – The Evolution (AIF/RE3I), i.e., Phase II, aims to enhance, expand elaborate, and innovation denoted as E3I, findings and results from the previous phase of the project. In the first phase of the project, the focus was to initiate and establish some fundamental components in the data lab. In the Phase I, the project has developed and established a software architecture and corresponding digital infrastructure to enable data sharing for the Swedish railway sector.

For Phase II, i.e. AIF/RE3I, we will focus on enablement of data and model sharing required for the establishment of AI-based solutions. Further, this phase of the project will revise and enhance the previously established architecture and infrastructure to be prepared for the emerging era of Quantum Computing.

The roles of the Post doc are:

  • provide a secure pipeline for data and model sharing.
  • responsible for developing models for assessing cyber threats and vulnerabilities, enabling proactive identification and mitigation of cybersecurity risks.
  • provide multi-level authentication mechanisms to control access to data and models securely within an enhanced cybersecurity platform for data & models sharing using distributed ledger and smart contracts.

The research tasks require an engineering background with good programming skills. The researcher should have expert level skills in cybersecurity and machine learning. You will have the opportunity to apply your skill set to challenging real-world data and evaluate and report the validity of your findings.

The candidate will join the research team of AI Factory and contribute to research activities in various research projects related to AI Factory. The candidate will also contribute to the dissemination activities such as the publication of scientific papers and attending conferences, workshops, webinars etc.

Qualifications
In order to be eligible for the position you must have a doctoral level degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, transport engineering, communication engineering, computer science engineering, material science engineering, industrial engineering, or any other equivalent engineering. Strong skills in programming for AI/ML using Python/R/any other languages is required. Knowledge of railway domain is not mandatory but may be considered as a merit.

Strong interest, curiosity and passion for research are prerequisites along with personal qualities relevant for postgraduate education, such as presentation and communication skills and analytical thinking ability. Excellent reading, writing, and communication skills in English is required.

Type and Period of Scholarship
The position is a Post Doctor with a scholarship for the duration of two years located in Luleå at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden.
