Mines Paris-PSL is one of the most prestigious engineering schools in France. Mines Paris-PSL is a public institution that trains generalist engineers through an innovative and multidisciplinary educational approach (engineering sciences and social sciences and humanities). Its affiliation with PSL University, which ranks among the top 50 in international rankings, represents a real opportunity to enrich academic paths.
Your environment :
The PERSEE Centre is based in Sophia Antipolis. It is one of the 18 research centres at Mines Paris PSL and one of the four centres in the institution's Energy and Processes Department. Its activity focuses on new energy technologies and renewable energies, centred on three key themes: Materials and Processes for Energy, Thermochemistry and Plasmas, Integration of Renewable Energies and Electrification Management.
Within this framework, the ‘Thermochemistry and Plasmas’ (TeP) group is looking for a junior researcher in plasma catalysis with excellent knowledge of both catalytic chemistry and cold plasma chemistry for its activities in the ‘non-thermal plasmas’ area.
Your challenges and responsibilities :
The successful candidate will join the TeP team at the PERSEE Mines Paris PSL center where s/he will undertake research on nonthermal plasma.
S/he will work under the scientific direction of the TeP manager with the other team members on every stage of research projects in this area (from conceiving ideas to communicating scientific results).
S/he will join a focus team within a research group comprising researchers, engineers and technicians and will be required to supervise students, including acting as a thesis advisor for PhD students. This means that s/he will take an active part in most current and future scientific studies.
The successful candidate’s main role will be to carry out experimental and theoretical studies, involving:
- Preparing and undertaking laboratory experiments
requiring solid skills in handling analytical instruments for physics and chemistry
- Developing special catalysts in the laboratory
experience in preparing special catalysts is indispensable
- Advanced physical-chemical modeling of plasma catalysis
proven proficiency in numerical modeling of plasma catalysis processes is essential
- Experimental development relating to catalysis in the area of nonthermal plasma – (joint) supervision of students, including acting as a thesis advisor for PhD students – Project monitoring
- Reporting on studies
- Writing scientific articles
- Ensuring scientific communication and participating at conferences
- Contributing to nonthermal plasma laboratory security
Let's talk about you !...
The main skills required for this post are :
· Knowledge and skills :
The position requires excellent knowledge and solid skills in the following three scientific areas:
- Catalytic chemistry (design and laboratory preparation of catalysts, catalyst characterization, surface chemistry, experimental investigation of heterogenous catalysts, thermocatalysis)
- Cold plasma chemistry (experimental and numerical)
- Analytical chemistry (spectroscopy, spectrometry, chromatography, BET, XPS, RDX, MEB, MET, TPD)
Sound general knowledge of process engineering is also required.
A doctoral degree in chemistry or physics on a subject related to plasma catalysis is mandatory. One or more post-doctoral experiences in plasma catalysis would be highly appreciated.
· Soft skills :
This position calls for both social skills necessary for teamwork, and scientific skills of a very high-level, combined with a genuine enthusiasm for lab-based field work.
Candidates will need to be comfortable working in a laboratory team and be capable of working autonomously to carry out their assignments.
