About Chemical & Biochemical Sciences Green Process Engineering (CBS)

The Chemical & Biochemical Sciences Green Process Engineering Department (CBS) is a component of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). The main objective of CBS is to set up a distinctive research-teaching program, of international level, to meet the research and teaching challenges of UM6P, in particular on green and environmental chemistry applied to all aspects of chemical sciences: organic and inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical biology, biochemical and thermal reactions.

Research at CBS is organized around several major areas, which aim to answer challenging industrial questions, from complex chemical and biochemical reactions to scale-up and validation of process engineering. CBS projects aim at an in-depth understanding of the molecular mechanisms of all transformations in order to propose new original alternatives in terms of efficiency, environmental friendliness and sustainability.

Job Description:

The Chemical and Biochemical Sciences-Green Process Engineering (CBS) at the University of Mohammed VI Polytechnic Benguerir Morocco is seeking applicants in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology and data analysis. 

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to maintain a research program in bioinformatics, collaborate with investigators across the health and agriculture sciences, teach courses, and mentor students. Successful applicants should have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, genomics, mathematics, computer science, or related fields.  We are particularly interested in one or more of the following research areas:

  • Multi-omics data modeling and integration
  • Genomics and/or metagenomics experience
  • Comparative/population genomics 
  • Cloud computing and cyberinfrastructure construction

Candidates are required to submit a cover letter, a CV, a research plan statement, and a teaching statement. In the teaching statement, please describe your teaching and learning methods, along with your objectives and aspirations as an educator. Application reviews are ongoing and will persist until the positions are filled.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Ph.D. in bioinformatics, genomics, mathematics, computer science, or related fields 
  • Minimum experience of 2 years as postdoctoral research in bioinformatics or equivalent.
  • Experience in analyzing eukaryotic and prokaryotic genomic data.
  • A strong programming background (Python, Perl or R).
  • A strong track record of high-quality publications in ranked journals 
  • Ability to generate new ideas, links, and to build upon existing ideas to generate good concepts and solutions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain high-quality collaborations.
  • Proven ability to fulfill the academic writing requirements for the development of proposals, reports, and scientific publications.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and to work independently.

Duties

The specific responsibilities and tasks of the successful candidate will include:                  

  • Conduct scientific research in the field of bioinformatics for better understanding of how genomes are structured, organized, evolve and function at the whole-genome level.
  • Develop a novel bioinformatics tool for analyzing data.
  • Collaborate with other UM6P researchers/groups on multidisciplinary research projects related to the field.
  • Develop and execute research proposals.
  • Supervising and mentoring master students, PhDs, and Post-docs and encourage their academic and professional development.
