Are you passionate about Hispanic literature and culture? Do you thrive in interdisciplinary environments? And are you ready to inspire students, conduct cutting-edge research, and shape the future of our programme? Then join the Hispanic Studies section of Radboud University as an assistant professor!

The Hispanic Studies section of Radboud University is looking for an assistant professor of Hispanic literature and culture. As an assistant professor you will be part of the Hispanic Studies section of the department of Modern Languages and Cultures at the Faculty of Arts and participate in its educational programme on all levels.

You are an inspiring teacher with a strong international research profile who demonstrates a global perspective on current academic and societal developments and a proven interest in interdisciplinary collaboration. You will be teaching BA and MA courses in modern and contemporary literature and culture within the Global Hispanophone (in Spanish, English and Dutch), supervise students, participate in educational support activities such as tutoring, and actively contribute to the development of the curriculum. You will be closely involved with the organisation of the Hispanic Studies programme and assist in shaping its future trajectories.

Your research will be embedded in the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH). You are a productive and active researcher who will contribute to RICH interdisciplinary research groups and RICH in general. Because of the research directions we are developing, affinity with the field of environmental humanities, gender studies, human rights, indigenous and/or migration studies would be an asset. You will seek external funding and will be active in public engagement activities. You will cooperate with academic staff in research activities and will participate in committees and/or project groups within the department, programme or faculty.

You will offer administrative and organisational services, such as collaborating in the organisation of cultural events of the Spanish programme as well as in various recruitment activities; you might also be invited to coordinate a Bachelor’s or Master’s Programme within the Faculty of Arts.

In this position, a standard part of your working hours is reserved for teaching (incl. administrative tasks) and for research (excl. additional research funding). The current teaching-research balance for assistant professors at the Faculty of Arts is 60%/40%. The Faculty of the Arts at Radboud University is committed to diversity and inclusivity. Candidates from underrepresented groups are especially invited to apply.

Profile

  • You should hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in Spanish or Latin American Literature.
  • You have a broad, transnational focus, including Transatlantic Hispanic Studies or the Global Hispanophone and your research has an interdisciplinary scope.
  • You have a track record of international high-profile scholarly publications.
  • You have an international network of contacts in academia and stakeholders in your field and the ambition to fulfil a leadership position in your field.
  • You have the ability to attract external research funding and are keen to participate in RICH.
  • You have demonstrable experience with and/or are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary teaching; you are open to teaching Spanish, Latin American or Global Hispanophone literature and culture; language acquisition might also be a minor part of your teaching load.

  • You have experience in teaching to non-native speakers on an academic level.
  • You possess administrative and organisational skills, and you are a flexible, proactive person and a team player.
  • You have native or near-native Spanish language skills.
  • You hold a Dutch university teaching qualification (BKO), or are willing to obtain such a qualification within two years.
  • You are proficient in English at Cambridge Certificate Level 3 or are prepared to acquire this proficiency  within one year.
