Sustainable Energy Engineering: Lecturer, Electrical and Electronics

Faculty of Applied Sciences

The Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) at Simon Fraser University is expanding.  With a current count of 3700 undergraduate students, 500 graduate students and 120 faculty members, the Faculty is about to embark on an exciting growth period, and we fully expect the next five years will place the disciplines within our faculty among the best in the world.  Core drivers for the Faculty include a commitment to excellence at the highest level possible, engagement with industry, a responsibility to drive social change, and empowering our students, staff and faculty to leverage diversity and collaboration to increase innovation.

As part of its growth, the Faculty is launching a new program in Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE), with its first students arriving in Fall 2019 and housed in a newly constructed, state of the art engineering expansion to the SFU Surrey campus.   Our goal is to create a program and culture where innovation and inclusion go hand in hand.   Applications are invited for a continuing teaching position in the SEE program, as part of the faculty complement that will launch this exciting initiative.  Applications will be considered at the ranks of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer.

Sustainable Energy Engineering: Lecturer, Electrical and Electronics

The successful candidate will report to the Director of the SEE program and their primary responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Developing course content, and teaching a regular course load, in areas such as:
    • Electric Circuits
    • Electronic Devices & Systems
    • Electric Machines & Energy Conversion

    • Academic integrity and Student Conduct
    • Broad based admissions, recruiting and outreach
    • Experiential learning  and capstone project coordination
    • Curriculum management (undergraduate or graduate) and Accreditation
    • Diversity, equity and inclusion
    • Library liaison
    • Safety
    • Space allocation
    • Student liaison

The ideal candidate is expected to possess and demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in engineering, in energy systems, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronic systems engineering, engineering physics, or another closely related discipline
  • Proven excellence in developing and teaching engineering courses at the undergraduate and (where applicable) graduate levels
  • Excellent communication skills and commitment to a team based working culture
  • Demonstrated passion for sustainability in engineering practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia within one year of assuming the position.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
