The Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry invites applications to fill the position of

Independent Junior Group leader “Metabolomics and Plant Resilience” (m/f/d)

Who we are: The IPB is a non-university research institution of the Leibniz Association on the Weinberg Campus of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Research of its four departments (ca. 200 employees, including about 40 PhD students) aims to understand the bio/chemical basis of plant resilience and performance in challenging environments. The IPB offers excellent research facilities and state-of-the-art infrastructure to investigate the chemical diversity, biochemical interactions, and biological roles of plant and fungal natural products, with an emphasis on specialized metabolites, signalling molecules and relevant molecular networks of functional gene and protein regulation (https://www.ipb-halle.de).

Whom we are looking for: Early career scientists with PostDoc experience, an excellent publication record, and who have demonstrated their ability of innovative research and independent thinking. The research program of the successful applicant will address contemporary topics in plant stress biology where metabolomics should represent a significant part of the methodology. Interdisciplinary approaches (e.g., including cell biology, genetics or proteomics) are encouraged. Topics may include plant specialized or general metabolism or phytohormone signaling and action. The incumbent is expected to actively acquire external funding from German, European or overseas sources.

What we offer: The position is for 6 years (mid-term appraisal after 3 years) and will be supported by an exceptionally attractive package, including start-up funds, intramural salaries for a postdoctoral scientist and technical assistant, annual funds for consumables, and the possibility to apply for additional instrumentation. The independent group will have free access to all shared IPB facilities, including climatized plant growth chambers and greenhouses, extensive metabolomics and analytical equipment, proteomics and high-end microscopy. The independent group will be hosted in a furnished and equipped laboratory. The position is part of the Program Center for Plant Metabolomics and Computational Biochemistry (MetaCom: https://www.ipb-halle.de/en/research/program-center-metacom/). Cooperations with MetaCom and IPB research groups are actively encouraged.

The salary and excellent benefits (social and health insurance) will be based on German law for employees in the public sector (TV-L group E14). The IPB is an equal opportunity employer and promotes a family-friendly working environment. Anticipated start date: January 2025 onwards (negotiable).

How to apply: Please submit a single pdf document including your curriculum vitae (2 pages), a list of your publications, a summary of your research accomplishments (max 3 pages), your proposed research program (3 pages) and contact details for at least 2 referees quoting reference number 7/2024 until July 21st, 2024 to bewerbungen@ipb-halle.de.

For further information please contact Prof. Dr. Alain Tissier (atissier@ipb-halle.de), Tel.: +49 (0) 345 5582-1500

The successful candidate with a PhD degree not obtained at a German university must submit a certificate assessment for foreign university qualifications (Statement of Comparability for Foreign Higher Education Qualifications) from the Central Office for Foreign Education (https://www.kmk.org/zab/central-office-for-foreign-education).
