Integrated optical sensors with nanostructured trampolines
Research area and project description:
The project aims at developing ultrashort optical resonators composed of ultrathin, nanostructured vibrating mirrors for various sensing applications. By patterning thin suspended silicon nitride films with a subwavelength structure (high contrast grating) and assembling them to form micron-long optical cavities, highly wavelength-selective optomechanical sensors will be realized. The high spectral selectivity combined the small cavity mode volume and the outstanding mechanical quality of the vibrating mirrors will be exploited for various applications—sensitive pressure measurements, refractive index sensing, optical filtering—or for fundamental investigations of optical forces at the nanoscale.
Qualifications and specific competences:
Applicants must hold an MSc or equivalent degree in Physics, some experience in experimental AMO physics/nanosciences being a plus.

The test result must not be more than two years old at the time of application.
The English language test should be taken before applying for admission and uploaded under “language skills documentation” in the online application form.
It is possible to apply for admission before you have taken the test. In this case documentation stating that you have signed up for a test (please state expected submission date) must be uploaded. If the test result is not part of the original application the test result is to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than one month after the application deadline.
