YOUR TASKS
- At least 50% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation. This doctoral research will focus on the design of innovative products in a medical context (including well-being). This involves the study of living lab environments, sustainable design, and medical product design.
- You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, specifically in the domain industrial design engineering technology. You will provide support for the courses within the program and play a supporting role in the operation of the studios and laboratories.
- You will supervise students in the context of exercises, internships, and the master's thesis.
- You will assist in the internal and external services of the department. This includes, for example, participation in the Day of Science, organizing workshops for initiatives such as Knappe Koppen, SID-ins, etc.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You hold a degree of Master in Engineering Technology or Engineering, or you hold another master’s degree but you can credibly demonstrate that you have acquired this expertise through other means.
The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment. - For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted.
- You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services.
- You possess (demonstrable) scientific skills.
- You have knowledge of design methodologies and are proficient in various aspects of design engineering (rapid prototyping, CAD, production methods, e-prototyping, etc.).
- Teaching experience and participation in further training, conferences, or didactic skills acquired through extracurricular activities are considered an asset.
- You have excellent teaching and communication skills.
- You are enterprising, professional, independent, and meticulous.
- You have a clear vision on research and education.
- You have strong communication skills.
- You are a team player with a critical yet open, constructive, and creative mindset, and you are eager to contribute to an ambitious educational and research project.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer you a position in a dynamic and passionate team, based at the Industrial Design Center (Ghent University Campus Kortrijk), a vibrant environment where creativity, research, and reflection go hand in hand.
- We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education.
- Your appointment will start on 1 October 2025 at the earliest.
