YOUR TASKS

  • Our interdisciplinary research group is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic researcher to investigate the role of the hip capsule in lower-limb movement. This research is part of an Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) funded project examining the impact of hip surgery on the integrity and function of the hip capsule. The position involves a four-year PhD trajectory. 
  • Your research will contribute to the development of new clinical applications in the field of personalized treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. You will be part of an interdisciplinary research team consisting of physicians, engineers, and biomedical scientists.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master's degree in Human Movement Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Physiotherapy, or Medicine. All degree requirements must be fulfilled by the date of appointment. 
  • You have a strong interest in the musculoskeletal system. 
  • You enjoy working with patients and have a good command of the Dutch language. 
  • You are capable of independently developing and carrying out a research project. 
  • You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher through your Master's thesis research. 
  • You are willing to actively participate in clinical data collection involving patients undergoing hip surgery. To this end, you possess strong communication skills and maintain a professional attitude when interacting with patients and healthcare professionals. 
  • You are motivated to conduct both fundamental and applied scientific research within a multidisciplinary research environment involving engineers, clinicians, and physiotherapists. 
  • You have a strong interest in biomechanics, musculoskeletal modelling, and/or clinical movement analysis. 
  • A good command of Dutch is required to communicate with patients and perform clinical assessments. Knowledge of French and/or other languages is considered an asset. 
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, motion analysis, electromyography (EMG), exercise physiology, medical imaging, musculoskeletal modelling, or numerical simulations is considered an advantage. 
  • You possess strong analytical skills, work accurately, and are able to function both independently and as part of a team. 
  • You have a strong interest in scientific research and are motivated to disseminate research findings through international conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals. 
  • You possess excellent scientific writing skills in both English and Dutch.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer a full-time position as a doctoral fellow, consisting of an initial period of 12 months, which - after a positive evaluation, will be extended to a total maximum of 48 months. 
  • Your contract will start on 01/09/2026 at the earliest. 
  • The fellowship amount is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member in equal family circumstances. The individual fellowship amount is determined by Team Personnel Administration based on family status and seniority. A grant that meets the conditions and criteria of the regulations for doctoral fellowships is considered free of personal income tax. Click here for more information about our salary scales
