The Construction Engineering Research Group (CERG) is an emerging research entity of the Engineering Faculty of Hasselt University, with a major interest on, on the one side, the mechanical behavior of structures made of concrete, masonry, steel, timber, and combinations of these materials, and, on the other side, on road engineering. In the framework of its development, the Research Group has the possibility to offer a PhD grant starting from the academic year 2018 2019.
The PhD project aims at developing, characterizing, and optimizing innovative composite timber-concrete elements, with particular focus on the short and long-term flexural behavior, the connectors, and the choice of the materials. The project includes both an experimental campaign, in which the developed solutions will be tested at full scale, and a numerical campaign, in which finite element models will be developed and calibrated against the experiments. De project will lead to practical design rules for such structures.
You will be appointed and paid as PhD student.
Scholarship for a period of 2 x 2 years (with evaluation after 2 years). The PhD scholarship covers a period of 4 years.
