Background
You will be part of a multidisciplinary research team. The Materials Physics (IMOMAF) research group focuses on developing innovative solutions to successfully bridge the gap between fundamental research and industrially compatible materials systems and processes. This is done in a wide range of fields, from nano and quantum physics to electronics, advanced sensing, and healthcare materials. Cooperation with industrial partners plays a crucial role in the IMOMAF research group. The research group includes various subgroups with specific and complementary expertise, which work closely together and operate within the spearhead domains of Hasselt University's Institute for Materials Research (IMO). Moreover, the IMOMAF research group is affiliated with the IMEC associated laboratory "IMOMEC". Focus activities are a.o. wide bandgap materials, quantum technologies, organic opto-electronics, nano-scaled materials, energy materials & interfaces, healthcare materials & sensing and analytical & microscopical services. The research group regularly acts as a partner in various European, Flemish, national and international research programs and networks and has a long tradition of joint research and service provision with industry and research centres.
Education task
You will make a significant contribution to the educational activities within the Bachelor of Physics program, as well as in the recently established two-year Master in Materiomics. You are expected to coordinate courses and develop lecture material. You contribute to the innovation of education, aligned with the current educational concepts of the Faculty of Sciences and Hasselt University. You take on responsibilities in the educational laboratory, ensuring its effective use for teaching and learning purposes and contributing to the continuous improvement of laboratory-based education. Additionally, you will supervise internships and thesis projects, and mentor students.
Research mission
You will initiate and carry out innovative research, widening current activities of the research group within the core domains: energy conversion, energy storage, sustainable materials, sensors & healthcare materials or quantum technologies. Dynamic research efforts in this field should enable you to establish independent and original new research lines while fostering collaboration with the existing research at UHasselt. You are expected to actively secure external funding, launch national and international projects, supervise (post)doctoral researchers, and contribute to the development of the research program and services. You will be responsible for the Photoelectron spectroscopy lab and will develop an (inter)national network with stakeholders in the relevant field, actively pursuing local and international research and service collaborations.
Profile
You are dedicated to high-quality teaching and innovative didactics at various academic levels.
