The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB) is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet, and focuses on basic research in the biomedical field. We have a long and proud history of groundbreaking science, especially the development of innovative methods and their application to understand basic human biology and the mechanisms behind diseases. MBB actively participates in undergraduate education within the medical and biomedical programs, and is responsible for courses in biochemistry, general & organic chemistry, chemical biology and project courses. We are also responsible for Karolinska Institutet’s chemistry laboratory facilities at the Scheele Laboratory. To further strengthen the quality of education, we now want to recruit a committed and driving teacher who can help drive the development of our undergraduate education in parallel with research within one of the department’s areas of interest.
The position includes overall responsibility (reporting to the Director of undergraduate studies, GUA, at MBB) for the operation and development of laboratory course work at the Scheele chemistry laboratory at Karolinska Institutet . The assignment includes preparations for laboratory course work as well as contributing to increased use of the Scheele Laboratory. The position also includes teaching and course responsibility/examinership in biochemistry and related disciplines.
The subject area for the lecturership is medical biochemistry. The applicant must have defended a doctoral thesis in a preclinical subject, preferably biochemistry or related molecular medicine specialty, and after the defense has been active in undergraduate education in this subject. The applicant must also have been active in research and/or educational development projects.
Appointment to the position of assistant lecturer requires demonstrated pedagogical skills and scientific skills as demonstrated by a PhD or the equivalent scientific competence, or some other professional skills of significance to the nature of the appointment and the tasks and duties it entails. Appointment to the position of assistant lecturer requires good scientific skills and excellent pedagogical skills. Since it is a teaching position with main tasks in teaching, high demands are placed on pedagogical skills.
It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching and higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of the Swedish Higher Eduation Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

Since the work includes responsibility for a chemical laboratory, previous experience of this is required, including completed course work in in laboratory safety. If equal qualifications exist, applicants who contribute to a more even gender distribution in the department will be prioritized.
