The Department of Company Law and Financial Law, which is part of the Institute for Private Law, at Leiden University, is looking for a new colleague for the position of Assistant Professor of Financial Law. This position contributes to the Department’s ambition to further strengthen its education and research in this field.

This is what you will do

As an assistant professor you will:

  • Teach, improve, and/or develop courses at bachelor and master level.
  • Supervise bachelor and master theses.
  • Serve as the academic coordinator of the advanced master in financial law
  • Build and expand your own line of research in the field of financial law.
  • Participate in national and international academic research networks and publish in national and international scientific journals.
  • Contribute where possible to the acquisition of research grants.

This is what you bring

  • You hold a doctorate in financial law or in another relevant field of law or you are about to obtain that doctorate.
  • You have publications in national and international scientific journals or demonstrable potential to realize them.
  • You enjoy teaching, have experience with university teaching and are open to innovative and activating teaching methods.
  • You have experience in coordinating teaching and/or a strong affinity for organizing in general and enhancing educational processes in particular.
  • You are a team player and enjoy working with colleagues, who may be partly employed at other institutes and faculties.
  • You have a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or are prepared to obtain this qualification within two years.
  • You are proficient in Dutch and English (or willing to master a C1 level of fluency in Dutch within two years, supported by the Institute).

  • An employment contract for the duration of one year with the prospect of permanent employment after a positive evaluation. The agreement falls under the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities;
  • A salary of a minimum of € 4.537,- and a maximum of € 6.209,- gross per month, based on a full-time appointment (38 hours) (scale 11).
  • Holiday allowance (8%), an end-of-year bonus (8.3%) and an attractive pension scheme with ABP;
  • Flexible working hours: as standard, you have at least 29 vacation days with a full-time working week of 38 hours; you can also build up additional leave by, for example, working full-time 40 hours per week and thus building up 96 additional leave hours or by handing in 96 leave hours and working a 36-hour working week;
  • Wide choice of secondary employment conditions; for example, it is negotiable to opt for a sabbatical or paid parental leave. Within our choice model employment conditions, days off and/or salary can be used for, for example, a favorable sports subscription, bicycle arrangement and there are possibilities for childcare ;
  • If the work allows it, hybrid working within the Netherlands is possible;
  • A home work allowance (daily and internet allowance) and attention to good workplaces, in addition you will receive a laptop and a mobile phone from the university at your disposal.
