LUT School of Engineering Sciences is hiring a professor in separation technologies for particles.

The professorship is located at the Department of Separation Science of the LUT School of Engineering Sciences. The School's mission is to train problem-solvers in engineering and contribute to a wider understanding of our world through research in technology. Our research and education are characterised by an entrepreneurial, global and sustainable mindset.

The department of Separation Science conducts groundbreaking research in chemical engineering, with 120 employees and 13 research groups. The professorship focuses on state-of-the-art research on particle-related separation technologies from different points of view. The work requires deep scientific understanding of the related physical and chemical phenomena, exploration and development of novel and existing technologies and unit processes, and practical application for societally and industrially important separation problems.

The professorship is situated at the assistant, associate or full professor levels of the tenure track and will be filled through an open application process for a fixed term of four years (assistant/associate professor) or permanently (full professor). The professorship will be located in LUT's Lappeenranta campus, Finland. The work may require travel to the university’s other locations in Lahti, Mikkeli, and Kouvola as needed. The work will start with a six-month trial period.

The position offers a unique opportunity to engage in groundbreaking research and collaborations within several fields in chemical engineering, contributing to the development of the regenerative use of planetary resources. You will work in a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research environment in a diverse academic setting, fostering collaborations across multiple disciplines and benefit from LUT's international community and networks that enable global partnerships and offer insights into different cultures and perspectives. You will also have access to excellent laboratory facilities at the Department of Separation Science. In addition, the position offers possibility to enjoy Finland’s high quality of life: a high standard of living, excellent health care and social services, and a clean and safe environment.

The candidates are expected to demonstrate a high level of academic competence in separation technologies for particles, related experimental and modelling research, and analytics. The emphasis should be especially on a wide range of solid-liquid separation technologies, and the candidates should have reasonable knowledge of filtration. The  objective will be to set up your own research group and offer expertise in the field of the professorship.

The candidates must have proof of high-impact international research and publishing. Skills for collaborating both within LUT and with national and especially international partners are crucial to the position, and the candidates will be expected to provide evidence of successful international collaboration and the acquisition of research funding.

Proof of successful project work and research collaboration with research institutions and industry is considered an advantage. In addition, the evidence of experience in managing an organisation and acquiring competitive funding is valued.
