Job Summary:

The Biotechnology Engineering Professor will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in biotechnology engineering, conducting innovative research, and contributing to the academic development of students. The individual in this role will engage in curriculum development, mentorship, and academic advising, as well as participate in interdisciplinary projects that advance the field of biotechnology. They will also work to maintain an active research agenda and contribute to the broader academic community.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Instruction:

  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biotechnology engineering, including but not limited to genetic engineering, bioinformatics, biomaterials, bioprocessing, and environmental biotechnology.
  • With experience of project-based teaching or at least very open to this type of teaching.
  • Create and update course materials, including syllabi, lecture slides, lab exercises, and assessments.
  • Use innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • Provide mentorship and academic advising to students, assisting them in their academic and career goals.
  • Supervise and guide student projects, theses, and research.

Research:

  • Conduct high-impact research in biotechnology engineering, focusing on areas such as genetic modification, sustainable energy, biomedical applications, environmental biotechnologies, or other emerging fields.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present research at national and international conferences.
  • Seek funding opportunities through grants, industry collaborations, and other funding sources.
  • Supervise graduate students and postdoctoral researchers involved in research projects.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Biotechnology Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Strong background in biotechnology principles, engineering techniques, and laboratory methods.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of biotechnology engineering (e.g., genetic engineering, bioprocessing, bioinformatics, etc.).
  • A track record of scholarly research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Previous experience in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students and collaborate with colleagues.

Experience:

  • Postdoctoral experience or equivalent research experience.
  • Experience with industry partnerships, technology transfer, or applied research.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards and the process of curriculum development.
  • Previous experience in mentoring graduate students or supervising research projects.
  • Expertise in laboratory management, experimental design, and analysis in biotechnology contexts.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools for research, data analysis, and teaching (e.g., MATLAB, Python, bioinformatics tools).
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate across academic and industry sectors.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
