Job Summary:

The Chemical Engineering Professor is responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in chemical engineering, conducting research in the field, and contributing to the development of the department. The professor will mentor students, contribute to academic and administrative duties, and participate in the broader academic community through publishing research, collaborating with colleagues, and engaging with industry partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Instruction:

  • Develop, prepare, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in chemical engineering subjects, such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, process design, chemical reaction engineering, and transport phenomena.
  • With experience of project-based teaching or at least very open to this type of teaching.
  • Create and update course materials, including syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, and exams.
  • Employ diverse teaching methods, such as lectures, labs, tutorials, and group work, to enhance student learning.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Supervise student projects, capstone projects, and theses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of the chemical engineering curriculum.

Research:

  • Conduct independent, high-impact research in the field of chemical engineering, with an emphasis on advancing scientific knowledge and technological development.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and books.
  • Pursue external funding through grants and collaborations to support research activities.
  • Mentor graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in research projects.
  • Collaborate with industry, government agencies, and academic institutions on research initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Eng. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field is required.

Experience:

  • A strong record of research in chemical engineering with the ability to secure external funding.
  • Proven teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in a university setting.
  • Postdoctoral research experience or industrial experience is preferred.
  • Experience with industry partnerships, technology transfer, or applied research.
  • Previous experience in mentoring graduate students or supervising research projects.
  • A track record of scholarly research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Previous experience in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards and the process of curriculum development.
  • Expertise in laboratory management, experimental design, and analysis in chemical technology contexts.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools for research, data analysis, and teaching (e.g., MATLAB, Python…).
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate across academic and industry sectors.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
