The Department of Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology at Radboud University has a position for an assistant professor in the field of clinical neuropsychology or neuropsychological rehabilitation. This position involves 50% teaching and 50% research.
We are looking for an assistant professor with a strong research track record in clinical neuropsychology and/or neuropsychological rehabilitation. You should have a patient-oriented research background in neuropsychology, with expertise in clinically relevant research questions such as neuropsychological profiling of patient populations with neurodegenerative disease or brain disorders, cognitive rehabilitation in patients with brain disorders, or the study of the underlying brain-behaviour mechanisms in acquired brain injury.
Your scientific research will focus on clinical neuropsychology and/or neuropsychological rehabilitation, that can be funded through the department’s existing collaborations with regional clinical centres (e.g. Vincent van Gogh Institute for Psychiatry, Klimmendaal Rehabilitation Centre, Radboud university medical center) as well as through new collaborations. Your research will be embedded in the Donders Centre for Cognition, which is part of the Donders Institute. The research aligns with Donders Theme 3 (Development and Lifelong Plasticity). You will be expected to actively apply for grant-based and contract funding that will support the research agenda of the Donders Institute in general and that of the Department of Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology in particular.
You will be teaching in the field of clinical neuropsychology (i.e. set up, coordinate and lecture in the new Bachelor 3 course in Clinical Neuropsychology), and will supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis projects on topics relevant to neuropsychology (e.g. neuropsychological assessment, rehabilitation, fundamental knowledge). Your teaching will be part of the English-taught Bachelor’s degree programme in Psychology and the Dutch-taught clinical Master’s degree programme in Gezondheidszorgpsychologie (healthcare psychology).
Work and science require good employment practices. Radboud University's primary and secondary employment conditions reflect this. You can make arrangements for the best possible work-life balance with flexible working hours, various leave arrangements and working from home. You are also able to compose part of your employment conditions yourself. For example, exchange income for extra leave days and receive a reimbursement for your sports membership. In addition, you receive a 34% discount on the sports and cultural activities at Radboud University as an employee. And, of course, we offer a good pension plan. We also give you plenty of room and responsibility to develop your talents and realise your ambitions. Therefore, we provide various training and development schemes.
The Department of Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology is embedded in the Donders Centre for Cognition, one of the centres of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, and is part of Radboud University’s Faculty of Social Sciences. Conducting neuroscientific research in clinical populations is a key topic at our department, bridging the gap between cognitive neuroscience and clinical application. The Department has strong collaborations with groups across the Donders Institute, Behavioural Science Institute, Radboud university medical center (notably the departments of medical psychology, geriatrics, neurology, and gynaecology), Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Vincent van Gogh Institute for Psychiatry and the Klimmendaal Rehabilitation Centre, and supervises both employed and external PhD candidates. The Donders Centre for Cognition offers excellent research facilities, such as advanced EEG and eye movement registration, lab space, excellent access to fMRI and other neuroimaging facilities, and an internal technical support group.
The Department of Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology has a strong focus on cognitive disorders of learning and memory (including Korsakoff’s amnesia and dementia), executive function and social cognition, and language. Research also focuses on other symptoms such as pain, psychopathy and apathy, as well as neuropsychological test development and validation, intervention studies on non-pharmacological treatments, and cognitive aging.
The department is embedded in the Donders Centre for Cognition, one of the centres of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, a world-class, internationally oriented, interfaculty research centre that houses more than 700 researchers devoted to understanding the mechanistic underpinnings of the human mind.
Excellent, state-of-the-art research facilities are available for the broad range of neuroscience research that is being conducted at the Donders Institute. The Donders Institute has been assessed by an international evaluation committee as ‘excellent’ and recognised as a ‘very stimulating environment for top researchers, as well as for young talent’. The Donders Institute fosters a collaborative, multidisciplinary and supportive research environment with a diverse international staff. English is the lingua franca at the Institute.
