Far too many children benefit far too little from school mathematics education throughout their schooling, and current studies indicate that a surprisingly large proportion of students risk leaving primary school with insufficient subject-specific mathematics skills and a lack of desire to learn mathematics in the future. At the teacher training program at Copenhagen University College (KP), we have high ambitions for mathematics both as a subject in school, a subject in teacher training and as a subject-specific didactic research field. As the country's largest teacher training program, we at KP have a large mathematics subject-specific didactic research environment, which has the potential to contribute significantly to the further development and improvement of mathematics education in primary school and to contribute substantially to mathematics didactics as a field of research both nationally and internationally.
The mathematics didactic research environment is part of the subject didactic research and development program at KP's teacher education and aims to strengthen teaching and learning in mathematics by creating a close link between students' learning processes and teachers' practice development. Our work addresses the challenges that both students and teachers encounter in mathematics teaching and seeks to develop innovative teaching methods that promote a deeper understanding of mathematics. We want to contribute to a sustainable development of mathematics teaching that makes both students and teachers better equipped to meet the demands and opportunities of the future. We are particularly concerned with a number of central themes within mathematics didactics that address the fundamental learning and motivational challenges for mathematics teaching in primary schools - including mathematics as an educational subject, early mathematics teaching, investigative mathematics and professional teacher development. The mathematics didactics research environment is part of the focus area for STEM didactics, where in addition to mono-subject mathematics didactics projects, we also develop projects across mathematics and science didactics.
We are looking for an associate professor and research manager who, in close collaboration with the department's management, can lead this development and who can play a significant role in developing and representing the teacher education's research and development profile in the field of mathematics didactics.
As a docent, your primary responsibilities will be to:
- drive the professional development of the program – including research production and research quality
- contribute to growth in research and development projects that can obtain external funding
- promote scientific and practice-oriented publishing - both nationally and internationally - with a view to strengthening the quality of both the education and the professions we train for
- further develop collaboration with municipalities, universities (nationally and internationally) and other knowledge partners
- strengthen capacity building through collaboration with universities, international partnerships and competence development of the programme's teachers
- supervise PhD fellows and PhD applicants
- ensure an optimal link between research and educational activities.
About you
As an associate professor, you are expected to have documented experience in one or more of the above academic themes in the form of a PhD degree or equivalent.
In addition, we imagine that you:
- is concerned with changing and improving practice and is passionate about developing and using new knowledge as a catalyst in that process
- have experience in the role of academic leader and strong competencies within research management. It is an advantage if you have experience in building research environments in close contact with other researchers and practitioners.
- thrives in the role of professional leader, can create common direction and motivation in collective research and development activities
- has solid experience in independently planning, managing and evaluating research and development activities
- has experience in guiding and qualifying researchers through, for example, peer sparring, organizing seminars, etc.
- has experience with supervising PhD applications and preferably also PhD students
- can document results in relation to external financing of research and development projects
- is familiar with practice-based research methods - preferably experience with intervention research, where work is systematically carried out to develop and investigate complex interventions in collaboration with practice
- has documented experience with research communication to multiple target groups, both in the form of national and international publications and conference contributions.

Salary and employment conditions
You will be employed as an associate professor starting onJanuary 1, 2027The position is on37hours per week.
You will be employed according to the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the relevant organization and in accordance with Executive Order No. 414 of April 27, 2025 on the position structure for teachers at vocational academies, university colleges, etc.
Employment as an associate professor requires a positive associate professor assessment by an external, scientific assessment committee, which is appointed in connection with the position being filled, cf. Executive Order No. 413 of 27 April 2025.

The external scientific assessment committee will assess your professional qualifications, while your overall qualifications will be assessed by an internal recruitment committee. In Executive Order No. 413 of 27 April 2025, Appendix 2, you can find out about the basis on which you as an applicant will be assessed by the external assessment committee.
A pre-selection will be made based on the candidates' qualifications before candidates are forwarded for assessment by the external assessment committee.
The assessment process involving both committees is expected to take place in weeks 37-45.
