Role and salary
The Department of Technical Physics at the University of Eastern Finland (link) is seeking a Research Engineer to work on the research and development project "Research and Development of Diffuse Tomographic Imaging Devices (DITO)", which is part of the Academy of Finland -funded PROFI 8 initiative. The work will be carried out within the Inverse Problems Research Group (link) under the research area of Computational Science and Engineering.
You will be working in a research context focused on the design, development, and implementation of measurement systems – particularly tomographic imaging devices – to support the objectives of the DITO project. The project enables the development of new medical and industrial tomographic systems. The aim is to create next-generation systems with improved contrast and resolution that can provide novel insights into the structure and function of the object being imaged.

The position of a Research Engineer will be filled for a fixed term from 1 September 2025 (or as agreed) to 31 August 2030, due to it pertaining to a specific project task outlined in the project plan. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.
The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system for Finnish universities. The salary comprises two components: a job-related salary element and a personal salary element. In this position, the job-related salary element is based on level 8–9 (EUR 2,787.57–3,213.69) of the job requirement level chart for other expert and support staff. The personal salary element ranges from a minimum of 6% to a maximum of 50% of the above-mentioned sum. Depending on the salary elements, the salary will be approximately EUR 3,235–4,015 /month at the beginning of employment.
