Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE) is seeking to recruit a University Teacher in Business Innovation and Sustainability starting January 2nd, 2025, or as soon as possible after that for December 31st, 2027.  The fixed-term position is for launching the Bachelor of Business Innovation and Sustainability programme (BIS).

The new Bachelor of Business Innovation and Sustainability degree programme BIS aims to educate experts in business innovation and sustainable business. BIS combines in a creative and pioneering way the core competence of business studies with the knowledge and skills of sustainable development and innovation management raised by the changing society

The position of a University Teacher is an independent teaching task in the fields of strategy, entrepreneurship, international business, and innovation management, Duties include evaluation tasks, subject development tasks, teaching basic, intermediate, and advanced studies, participation in admissions, responsibility for study units and the ability for independent planning and implementation. The position also includes other tasks related to the BIS bachelor’s program.


Who we are looking for

We require the applicant to have a master’s degree suitable for the position. A doctoral degree is also considered an advantage. In choosing the successful candidate for the position, the following is taken into account:

  • teaching and supervisory experience
  • pedagogical training
  • produced learning materials

Other teaching merits such as internationalisation that supports teaching and research-based teaching and online pedagogical competence are considered an advantage for the applicant.

The duties and qualification requirements of a University Teacher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. This task is positioned in the English-language bachelor's programme so good proficiency in English and the ability to teach in English are mandatory. Finnish is considered an advantage.  A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

The salary for a University Teacher is determined based on the task-specific demand level 5 of the university salary system for teaching and research staff. The salary range will be approximately 3500-4100 €/month (gross income), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

  2. A short and informal motivation/cover letter (max 2 pages), including your research interests, career goals, and previous experience and merits in relation to the qualifications for this position.
  3. A numbered list of all scientific publications and other publications showing the applicant's ability and merits for the position using the guidelines of the Research Council of Finland.
  4. A maximum of five publications, which must be numbered according to the list of publications (as one PDF file) or a PDF file with public links to the 5 chosen publications.
  5. Research plan: a short written description (max 4 pages) of the applicant's research merits, leadership in research, and experience in obtaining research funding, as well as a research plan related to the position and a vision of how the applicant's current and future work will support the research and international collaboration at the University of Jyväskylä.
  6. A teaching portfolio prepared according to the guidelines, i.e., a written description of pedagogical training and teaching merits (Instructions on the JYU Work with us website).
