The SIGCOM research group, headed by Prof. Symeon CHATZINOTAS, carries out research activities in the telecommunication and networking systems, including NTNs and quantum communication infrastructure, and is currently expanding its research activities in exploring several emerging topics of next-generation communications and computing systems. About the role...

As a PhD candidate, you will be at the forefront of transformative research in the field of joint communications and sensing for next generation NTNs. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting groundbreaking research in joint communications, sensing and positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) applications for the next generation satellite systems
  • Developing innovative solutions and algorithms to integrate communication and sensing or communications and PNT capabilities, addressing unique challenges in the satellite environment
  • Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of researchers at SIGCOM to identify unexplored areas and unlock potential breakthroughs in the field
  • Staying updated with the latest advancements in satellite communication, signal processing, radar technologies, navigation algorithms, and other relevant domains
  • Publishing your research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and presenting your work at leading international conferences

Your profile...

Qualification: The candidate should possess an M.Sc./M.Eng. degree in one of the following fields: Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering.

Experience: The candidate should have strong digital signal processing and mathematical backgrounds evidenced by grades and/or prior publications. Additionally, the candidate should have expertise or strong interest (evidenced by familiarity with fundamental concepts) in several of the following topics:

  • Signal processing for wireless communication.
  • Solid background in optimization and information theory.
  • Good understanding or willingness to learn the radar and/or positioning technologies.
  • Strong programming skills in MATLAB. Python / TensorFlow or C/C++ are a plus but not mandatory
  • Highly committed, excellent team-worker, and strong critical thinking.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Programming Skills: MATLAB, C/C++.

Language Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. French, German or Luxembourgish is a plus.
