The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) at the University of Luxembourg brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences.

Your role

The postdoctoral researcher will analyze data from the Youth Survey Luxembourg (YSL) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Robin Samuel. The YSL covers a range of topics such as attitudes, digitality, health, political participation, and values of young people. Luxembourg is a highly diverse society and there is a need to better understand how social background shapes life chances. Further tasks will be to contribute to the design and collection of future YSL waves and disseminate findings to relevant audiences.

The successful candidate will join the YSL research team (two PhD students, one postdoctoral researcher) at the Centre for Childhood and Youth Research (CCY) within the Department of Social Sciences. The CCY is a multidisciplinary research group studying youth development and social inequalities. It maintains strong links with national and international research institutes and organizations.

Your responsibilities:

  • Conduct policy-relevant research using quantitative analyses of YSL and comparative datasets
  • Publish findings in academic journals and reports
  • Contribute to the design and data collection of future YSL waves
  • Disseminate results to stakeholders through policy briefs and data reports
  • Present research at national and international conferences
  • Contribute to funding applications

Your profile

  • Ph.D. degree in sociology or a related social science discipline
  • Expertise in data collection and advanced statistical analysis
  • Expertise in youth research is an asset
  • Proficiency in data processing and analysis software (e.g. R, Stata, Python, SPSS)
  • Proficient in at least two of the following languages: English, French, German (written and spoken); Luxembourgish is an asset
