Comprehensive, interdisciplinary research is the core of all FIOH activities. Research and development produces and maintains the best information available for improving conditions and well-being at work while promoting employee health and work ability.

Research projects by discipline

We carry out high-level research that meets the demands of work life, and we follow the world’s latest research developments. We convert the results of scientific research into innovative cost-effective solutions that serve work life, together with our clients and partners. We also assess the usability of our solutions.

Results that can be utilized directly

Research and development at the institute stems from the needs of work life and therefore seeks practical solutions. The majority of institute R&D is applied research with results that can be utilized directly. Other research aims to generate long-term effects by examining such phenomena as the mechanics behind work-related illnesses and the challenges and opportunities of future work conditions. FIOH benefits from its in-house multi-disciplinary expertise and cooperative networks as it develops its areas of specialisation. FIOH researchers actively participate in a variety of international research projects in the European Union and throughout the world.
