The University of Stavanger (UiS) on the South West Coast of Norway is situated in the most attractive region in the country, with some 300,000 inhabitants. UiS has an innovative and international profile, and is a driving force in knowledge development and in the process of societal change.
Academic life at the University of Stavanger is organised into six faculties comprising various departments/schools and National Research Centres, as well as the Museum of Archaeology. The university also has a unit for lifelong learning.
The PhD education at UiS is divided into 11 PhD studies, each of which spans a wide range of diciplines. The studies are organized under 4 PhD programmes. The PhD program is a three-year research education which you can apply for admission after completing a Master’s degree. The education includes relevant courses equivalent to about six months of study, a dissertation based on independent research, participation in national and international research environments, relevant academic communication, a trial lecture and public defence.
